Apple and Siri hit headlines at the start of the month as a report highlighted how Apple hired teams of contractors to listen and review audio clips from customer’s Siri interactions. Apple responded by halting the Siri grading process. Ultimately, this put a whole host of people out of work. The Irish Examiner spoke to contractors in Cork who were impacted by the decision. Apple used contractors to validate the performance of Siri’s transcription and understanding....

During the third day of the Apple vs. Samsung trial taking place in a San Jose courtroom this morning, Apple presented a set of new evidence through a series of six photographs that show the phone, music, contacts, photos, notes, and settings icons from iOS and Samsung’s custom TouchWiz UI layered on top of Android. It’s not uncommon for US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to seize counterfeit AirPods and iPhones, but there was just one small problem with the seizure proudly announced on Friday: they weren’t fake AirPods at all. The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) — of which Apple is a member — today has shared a new document outlining AI Policy Principles for the tech industry, the government, and public-private partnerships, as well as projecting how valuable AI could become in the near future. The five-page document seeks to “ensure that AI can deliver its greatest positive potential” and contains three mains sections: Industry’s Responsibility in Promoting Responsible Development and Use, The Opportunity for Governments to Invest In and Enable the AI Ecosystem, and The Opportunity for Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs)....
